¡Hola, amigos!
This is just for books I have read (that were really good), and what I liked about them. Feel free to recommend books for me to read & review as well. :D Also, for some of the books written in yellow lettering, by clicking on the title, it will take you to the site for the book. =]
NOTE: I am a college level reader. Just because I can read these books at age 13 or below does NOT mean that you can.
But, it shouldn't stop you from trying. ;)
The Trumpet of the Swan:
I read this book for the first time when I was about 9 years old, and I fell in love. :) The story is about a Trumpeter Swan in Canada who cannot 'trumpet' like other Trumpeter Swans. However, despite his muteness, Louis finds love and goes farther than any swan would go to prove his love. What I liked most about this story was the fantastic imagination weaved into the tale and the colorful idea that humans aren't the only ones who will do anything for true love. It was almost like a 275 page poem, if you get what I mean. ;) I highly recommend this book if your looking for a great love story, an exciting adventure, and something you want to read again and again and never get tired of it.
The Fablehaven Series:
I started this series back in sixth grade when I was about 12, and let me say this: this story is one of the best fantasies I've ever read. No freaken' joke. I loved the creativity and the concept of magical preserves all over the world, hidden from our un-opened eyes. I mean, how cool would it be to live on one of those? Well, aside from all the bad stuff that happens. xD The series is centered around two siblings; Kendra and Seth. Both of them have special abilities they gain over time that aid them in their adventures. FACT: I read the last book in 3 days.
That's how much I loved the series. For those who want an action packed, page-turning, heart-stopping, thrilling, mystery-unfolding, adventure that lasts five whole books, I HIGHLY recommend this series.
The Tithe Trilogy:
This trilogy was freaken'amazing, no mind-blowing. I've only read the first book, I'll be honest, but as soon as I get the chance to read the other two, I'm gonna' be all over that. xD I absolutely LOVED how Holly Black was so bold and edgy! She wasn't afraid to cuss in her story, and I loved that. You don't read a lot of books where f-bombs are dropped. However, just for understanding reasons, unless you are 14+ or read at a high school level, I recommend that you wait to read this story.. It is a mature themed book, but, if you think you can handle, I say go for it! The plot of the story is centered around Kaye, who inevitably finds herself thrown into a world where two clashing courts will decide her fate. Along the way, she finds herself drawn to a strange man, Robien, who turns out to be a faery. For those who want a mature themed story that is compelling, romantic, and dark, I give you the go-to to read this book.
The Da Vinci Code:
I read this book only a few months ago while I was still 13, but, holy cow, this story blew my f-ing mind. I don't mean to cuss, but this review requires it. That's how awesome this story was. However, as with the Tithe Trilogy, unless you are at least 18+ or read at a college level like myself, I wouldn't recommend this book for you. I set the age so high because the concepts in this story are extremely complicated and very mature. But, if you think you can take it, I say go ahead. It's a fantastic book with a thrilling plot that'll keep you on your toes, for sure. The plot is mostly about discovering the Holy Grail, but two opposite sides are searching for it. Time is against both sides, but with quick wits, an educated mind, and old friends, maybe, just maybe, the secret of 2,000 years can be unraveled. (I admit, I did NOT like the ending. But, that's just me) So, if you're into historical fiction with an action-packed adventure with an underlining love-story, and you feel up to the challenge of reading this book, go for it!
The Fallen Series:
Oh. My. Freaken. Gosh. This book was exactly what the cover said it was; sexy, dark, thrilling, and a total on-edge-the-whole-time-I-was-reading-it book. I absolutely loved how Lauren Kate incorporated Biblical truths and had Fallen Angels & demons, because you all know how much I adore them. xD Basically, two lovers who were 'meant to be together' are always separated for some reason. But, Luce, the main character, always comes back reincarnated and always finds herself back to Daniel, the one she is meant to be with, but can never have. Ultimate freaken' love story- and I loved it. I'd say, if you're at least double-digits, this book is totally fine. It wasn't that hard to read (I read in in two days xP), but it'll defiantly keep you thinking. ;) Anyone who RolePlay's Immortal characters who are Fallen Angels/Angels/Demons, I strongly recommend you read this book to get some cool things you can incorporate in your characters lifespan. I'm only done with the first book, but I am SOOO reading Torment, Passion, and Rapture (when it comes out).
Fires of Winter:
WARNING: This book in EXTREMELY mature-themed. That means, there's a lot of gory fighting, 'love-making' scenes, rape, and some terms most people don't understand. Unless you think you can handle the above, don't read this book.
Simple as that. Now, however, I really, really, REALLY, liked this book. Actually, it's my record-reading time. I read it in about… six hours. Yeah, that's how much I liked it. I was up until 3 in the morning. But, it was so worth it. The main plot circles are the clashing love-story between Brenna and Garrik; two complete opposites who inexplicably find themselves drawn to each other. But, as in ever good love story, the two are torn apart. I'm not sure what is was about this book I really liked, but I think it was how Brenna's attitude reminded me so much of my darling Emma. xD If you'd be interested in maybe checking out some old culture, a rough but tantalizing love story, and you can handle the mature themes, I recommend this book to you. :)
